Following the confirmation of the Champions League Round of 16 schedule, La Liga has adjusted the upcoming matchday fixtures, directly affecting Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Real Madrid now face one of the most unusual weeks in their history. They will host Getafe CF on Monday, March 2 at 9:00 PM, before traveling to face RC Celta de Vigo on Friday at the same time.
It marks the first time ever that Real Madrid will play a La Liga match on a Monday and another on a Friday within the same week. The final scheduling adjustment even caught the club off guard, as the Balaídos fixture had initially been announced for Sunday.
The key modification concerns the match at Estadio de Balaídos, which has been moved forward by 24 hours from Saturday to Friday. The change grants Arbeloa’s side an additional day of rest ahead of their highly anticipated Champions League showdown against Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday, March 11.
