On Friday, Gianni Infantino visited President Donald Trump in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington, presenting him with the Club World Cup trophy, which will be held in the United States next summer. During their meeting, both the FIFA president and Trump discussed various topics related to current football affairs, including the upcoming 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

One of the key subjects addressed was the upcoming Club World Cup. Infantino's comments in response to a question from Trump have stirred reactions across social media and sparked frustration among Atlético de Madrid fans.

When President Trump asked, "Which team is the favorite?" Infantino responded, "At this year’s Club World Cup, the favorites are certainly Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, or PSG. They are strong teams that are always competing at the highest level," notably excluding Atlético Madrid, coached by Diego Simeone. Infantino further added, "These teams are like global corporations, filled with players from many different nationalities."
