The Intercontinental Cup will have the essence of the current Club World Cup, with the champions of the six main competitions: UEFA (Europe), CONMEBOL (South America), CAF (Africa), CONCACAF (North America, Central America and the Caribbean), AFC (Asia) and Oceania (OFC). Real Madrid will play directly in the final (the Champions League champion will always do so) and as a rival, they will have the team that is capable of progressing through the different qualifying rounds. The CONMEBOL champion, that is, the Libertadores 2024, does have to overcome two previous rounds. A first challenge against the CONCACAF champion (Pachuca of Mexico) and, in case of victory, the pass to the final against Real Madrid will be played in another life or death match.

The semi-final competition and the grand final will take place in four days. The match for the trophy will be on December 18 (Wednesday). The country or venue of the tournament is not yet known.
