Real Madrid are exploring the January transfer market for a center-back following Éder Militão's serious knee injury. With only Antonio Rüdiger fully fit in the first team, Carlo Ancelotti is left with few options. Until the January window opens, the manager will rely on youngsters Asencio and Jacobo Ramón to fill the gaps. Meanwhile, the club’s executives are actively searching for a reliable, affordable solution.
One of the names reportedly under consideration is Jonathan Tah, the German center-back from Bayer Leverkusen. According to AS, Tah, who is out of contract next summer, could be an economically feasible option for Madrid. Though Laporte and Lukeba are also being monitored, Tah’s contract situation makes him a potential bargain. Previously linked with Bayern Munich and even Barcelona, Tah remained in Leverkusen this summer due to his club's high asking price. However, with the possibility of him leaving on a free transfer next summer, the price is expected to be more manageable in January.
Recently, Tah’s agent, Pini Zahavi, confirmed in an interview with Die Welt that his client is poised to leave Leverkusen, with Bayern Munich initially leading the race. However, a move to Real Madrid could shake things up. "The idea was for Tah to go to Bayern, the club really wanted to sign him. Unfortunately, Leverkusen asked for too much. But he will join a big club next summer," Zahavi stated.
With Tah’s contract expiring in June 2025, the January window represents Leverkusen’s last opportunity to cash in on the German international, making him an intriguing option for Real Madrid.
