Real Madrid are reportedly looking to add one more defender to the squad despite the arrivals of Denzel Dumfries and Ibrahima Konaté.
The two signings are viewed as replacements for Dani Carvajal and David Alaba, but the club believes an additional reinforcement is needed to complete the defensive unit ahead of next season.
According to AS, uncertainty surrounding Raúl Asencio's future and the desire to carefully manage Éder Militão's recovery have strengthened the club's determination to recruit another center-back.
José Mourinho is said to have identified three preferred candidates: Riccardo Calafiori, Josko Gvardiol and Nico Schlotterbeck.
Real Madrid reportedly intend to sign one of the three defenders in an effort to provide greater stability and depth at the back. Of the available options, Schlotterbeck is considered the most attainable due to his contractual situation and his reported interest in a move to the Santiago Bernabéu.
Calafiori and Gvardiol, both currently playing in the Premier League, are viewed as more difficult targets. However, the report claims Mourinho values their versatility and considers them slightly more attractive options for his defensive plans.
The club will now continue evaluating the market as it looks to complete its defensive rebuild before the start of the new season.
