Joselu Mato and Dani Carvajal have shared a remarkable journey in football, both as friends and family. From being rivals in LaLiga to teammates at the Real Madrid youth academy and first team, they’ve won European titles together, including their recent stint with the national team last summer.

While they’ve celebrated triumphs, they’ve also supported each other during tough times. In an interview with Jugones, Joselu reflected on Carvajal’s injury and how it deeply affected him. "I felt terrible when I saw Dani’s injury because I know him well. It still gets to me. I even posted on social media saying, 'I wish it had been me.' I called the physios and doctors right away," he shared, still visibly emotional. Joselu also revealed how devastating the moment was for his family, saying, "My wife and I were sick with worry. He called me from the ambulance and told me they’d said it was really bad."

Carvajal continues his recovery from a cruciate ligament injury, and Joselu provided insight into his friend’s determination. "Dani will come back stronger. I know how determined he is. He’s already set his sights on playing in the Club World Cup," Joselu explained. "People advised him not to set goals in case of setbacks, but he won’t care. He’s stubborn and driven."

Carvajal is entering a crucial stage of his recovery after more than 150 days since his injury against Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabéu. This week, he laced up his boots to train on the pitch for the first time in months. As Joselu mentioned, Carvajal’s target is the Club World Cup, set to begin in the United States on June 15.
