Ibrahima Konaté has made a firm decision regarding his future: if he leaves Liverpool, his only destination will be Real Madrid, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
The French defender's contract with the Premier League side runs until June 2026, but all attempts to reach a renewal agreement have stalled. As a result, a departure in the summer of 2026—as a free agent—is becoming increasingly likely, with a move to Real Madrid now appearing to be the most probable outcome, following in the footsteps of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who also joined the Spanish giants this summer.
Sources close to Konaté believe that his strong admiration for Real Madrid is one of the key reasons why negotiations with Liverpool haven’t progressed. The player reportedly views the Spanish club as the ideal environment to grow and compete at the highest level, and he is holding out for that opportunity.
As of now, there is no clear indication that Real Madrid have made a formal move for Konaté, but given the chance to sign a top-tier center-back on a free transfer, it’s expected that top European clubs will be on alert. PSG is also said to be making approaches, although Konaté’s preference remains clear.
Konaté played a vital role in Liverpool’s title-winning campaign last season, forming a rock-solid central defensive partnership with Virgil van Dijk.
