The ongoing conflict between Cristiano Ronaldo and the Saudi Pro League has drawn widespread attention across the football world. One of the figures to weigh in on the situation is Toni Kroos, former Real Madrid midfielder and longtime teammate of the Portuguese star.
Speaking on Einfach mal Luppen, the podcast he co-hosts with his brother Felix Kroos, the German did not hesitate to back Ronaldo publicly. Kroos highlighted Cristiano’s decisive role in raising the league’s global profile and questioned the current treatment of the player.
“The Saudi league is a strange phenomenon. Nobody had heard of it before Cristiano Ronaldo arrived, and now they're disrespecting the man who put them on the world map,” Kroos said. He went even further, stressing Ronaldo’s importance to the competition: “If Cristiano leaves tomorrow, this league will lose all its charm. Without Ronaldo, nobody would watch the Saudi league.”
