LaLiga has formally rejected Real Madrid’s request to postpone their opening La Liga match against Osasuna, currently scheduled for August 19. According to Cadena SER and AS, the league communicated that it sees no justification for the delay and stated that if the RFEF (Spanish Football Federation) were to approve the request, LaLiga would then propose an alternative date.

The dispute adds a new chapter to the ongoing calendar chaos. The request, submitted by Emilio Butragueño on behalf of Real Madrid, cited an agreement that supposedly existed between LaLiga, the RFEF, and AFE (players' union), which established that any team reaching the Club World Cup final phase—such as Real Madrid—would have their first league fixture postponed.

However, LaLiga has now denied the very existence of that agreement in its official response.

Despite the rejection, the issue is not fully resolved. The final decision rests with the RFEF's Sole Competition Judge. Nevertheless, in its letter, LaLiga warns that it is "unlikely" the request will be granted, stating that the case does not meet the necessary conditions and does not qualify as "force majeure."
