Nearly 32 months after the ‘Negreira case’ first came to light, new details have surfaced about FC Barcelona’s controversial payments to José María Enríquez Negreira, then vice president of referees. The scandal, originally uncovered by Adrià Soldevila, Jordi Martí, and Sique Rodríguez through Cadena SER’s Què t’hi jugues! program in February 2023, continues to deliver shocking twists.

Journalist Javier Alberdi, known as Pepe Kollins, has published a leaked audio recording of a private masterclass by Sique Rodríguez, in which the journalist makes candid confessions about the case.

The most striking revelation is that Barcelona allegedly asked Cadena SER to delay publication: “At the beginning of February, we already had it ready. Then we told Barça what we had, so they could prepare a response, since it was a very serious matter. That’s when Barça asked us to hold off a couple of weeks. The exact phrase was: ‘We are a man condemned to death asking you for last wish.’”

Rodríguez recalls another chilling reaction after the news broke: “An important person said to me: ‘Are you aware that you’re going to destroy the system?’”

In the leaked audio, Rodríguez claims the Negreira affair “originates from Núñez” and bluntly states: “Barça paid to influence. Football is also played in offices, and Negreira’s case was just that—playing in offices.”

He further suggests that the Civil Guard’s investigation uncovered referee reports from Segunda B and Segunda A signed by Negreira, while reports linked to referees promoted from Segunda to Primera had mysteriously vanished. He also speculates on a potential connection between Negreira’s threats to Bartomeu and a hypothetical position at Mundo Deportivo.

Rodríguez concludes with his own assessment: “I don’t think Barça will be convicted of sporting corruption because the system is corrupt.”

The case, now in its final judicial phase, awaits key testimonies from Joan Laporta, Luis Enrique, and Ernesto Valverde.
