Marcelo has sparked controversy in the Kings League after throwing a subtle jab at FC Barcelona. The former Real Madrid star, who has played two matches for Skull FC, has shown flashes of his talent but is still searching for his first win. During his second match against XBuyer Team, Marcelo heavily criticized the referee and used the opportunity to point towards Barcelona, where the tournament is being held under the management of Gerard Piqué, stating: “It’s always the same thing in Barcelona.”

Following the match, Marcelo took to social media to vent his frustration. He was angry over a penalty incident that the referee refused to award. Visibly upset, he asked to be substituted. He later posted: “This has been happening in Barcelona for a long time. We're used to it. Do I really need to say more?” His comments came right after telling reporters on the pitch: “It’s ugly, really ugly. The experience is incredible, but I don’t know if they did it to mess with me.”

This was Marcelo’s second loss with Skull FC, led by YouTuber Plex. The Brazilian also hinted at refereeing decisions he experienced while at Real Madrid in matches against Barcelona. The competition is being held at the Cupra Arena in Barcelona, is organized by former Barça defender Gerard Piqué, and his opponents—XBuyer Team—have strong ties to the Catalan club. Javier and Eric Ruiz, the club’s presidents, are well-known Barcelona fans. In response to Marcelo’s outrage, Eric mocked him after the replay of the incident: “What a dive. Where did you learn that? At the Bernabéu?”
