Franco Mastantuono has opened up about his decision to join Real Madrid, revealing how quickly things changed once the Spanish giants entered the picture. Speaking to TyC Sports, the young Argentine admitted: “My intention was to play for River Plate this year. That’s all I had in mind. But then Real Madrid came along and changed everything.”

A key moment in the process was his direct conversation with Xabi Alonso, which proved decisive: “The call I had with him really motivated me to make the decision to sign for Real Madrid.”

Reflecting on the transition, Mastantuono expressed pride in his journey: “I was at the biggest club in America, and now I’m going to the biggest in the world. It’s a dream. My dream is to stay there for a long time.”

He made sure to emphasize that he remained fully committed to River Plate until the very end: “Whenever I played for River, my mind was always focused there. I was never in a rush to make a decision.”
