Lorenzo, a young French child who was invited by Kylian Mbappé and Real Madrid to watch the La Liga match against Las Palmas on January 19, has tragically passed away from a glioma, a form of cancer located at the back of the brain.
Known in France as "Le petit Lorenzo," the boy gained widespread recognition recently for his final wish: to meet Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappé. Upon hearing about Lorenzo’s wish, Mbappé took action. The Parisian forward arranged for Lorenzo and his family to travel to Spain using his private plane. Together with Real Madrid, Mbappé helped fulfill the boy's dream, bringing him to the Santiago Bernabéu to watch Real Madrid play Las Palmas. Lorenzo also had the opportunity to meet Mbappé, the entire Real Madrid squad, and experience the stadium.
After the match, Mbappé shared his thoughts with Real Madrid TV, saying, “Lorenzo is an extraordinary boy. In life, there are things more important than football, and I want to thank the club for allowing me to bring him to the match and meet all the players. It was a magical moment for him, and I’m very happy to have been part of it.” Mbappé personally escorted Lorenzo to the airport afterward to say goodbye. Lorenzo's mother expressed her gratitude, saying, "Thank you for everything. Lorenzo was overjoyed to see Real Madrid play and to meet Kylian Mbappé. It was a dream come true for him. We are deeply thankful."
Mbappé honored Lorenzo with a tribute on his Instagram account, posting a photo of the two of them along with a heartfelt message: “After a long and brave fight, you passed away last night. My deepest condolences to your parents, who supported you with great dignity during this time. You will never be forgotten, and you will always be loved. God bless you. Rest in peace, my little Lorenzo. Your friend, Kylian.”
Real Madrid also released a statement: “Real Madrid CF, its president, and its Board of Directors wish to convey their heartfelt condolences to Lorenzo’s family, friends, and loved ones. Lorenzo recently fulfilled one of his dreams at the Bernabéu, where he met Kylian Mbappé and the Real Madrid players. We will always remember 'Le petit Lorenzo' with deep affection, and he will remain in our hearts. May he rest in peace.”
