Kylian Mbappé left La Cerámica with a wide smile after his two decisive goals secured Real Madrid's victory over Villarreal. In a match where fatigue weighed heavily on the team, the French forward stepped up when it mattered most, surpassing Ronaldo Nazario’s 30 goals in his first season with Real Madrid. Mbappé now sits at 31 goals and is eyeing Cristiano Ronaldo’s records.
"They are legends who defined an era, but in the end, it’s just numbers. Scoring more goals than Ronaldo and Cristiano doesn’t make me better. The most important thing is to help the team win titles. Goals are important, but they only matter if we win La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Champions League," Mbappé told Real Madrid Television.
Mbappé, who has regained his best form in 2025, also reflected on how the year is shaping up for him: "It’s been very positive for me. I feel great, both personally and with the team. I want to keep helping the team win, and I hope to contribute more after the international break."
Real Madrid’s number 9 also addressed the issue of fatigue, particularly after the grueling Champions League clash against Atlético Madrid. "It’s tough. Everyone saw the game against Atlético, with 120 minutes of high emotion. Then, playing just two days later is difficult. Even the warm-up was hard. But we have to respect the badge and fight until the end, and we did that to secure the win."
