Referee Soto Grado noted in his match report that the ball was involved in the challenge, which limited the potential suspension to a maximum of three matches. Ultimately, the committee opted for the minimum sanction available.
This ruling ensures that Mbappé will be available for Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey final against Barcelona. The committee determined that the action occurred during normal match play and was not considered an isolated or violent incident, further justifying the leniency.
