Kylian Mbappé has voiced his concerns over football’s increasingly congested calendar, warning that the heavy workload could eventually harm both players and the quality of the game.

“We explain our position, but in response we get: ‘You earn big money, so play.’ At this rate, we could debate this for years, and nothing would change,” the Real Madrid and France forward told reporters.

Mbappé highlighted that the issue goes beyond the number of games, stressing the lack of adequate recovery time. “At the Club World Cup in mid-July, we played in the quarterfinals while other teams were already starting preseason. Maybe I’m crazy, but I thought there might be a problem,” he said.

The French star added that while players remain passionate about football, the relentless schedule could one day force them to take drastic measures. “I don’t want the moment to come when we, the players, say: ‘This match in November is meaningless, I’ll skip it.’ We love football and maintain our enthusiasm, even when it becomes our job.”
