Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the greatest legends in the history of football. At Real Madrid he reached heights that were unimaginable for any professional football player at that time. Beyond the infinity of titles achieved with Los Blancos, he has a milestone that seems unreachable: scoring more goals than games played with Real Madrid. In his nine seasons, the Portuguese scored 450 goals in 438 games.

According to The Athletic, Jorge Mendes called the Real Madrid board on several occasions during the last summer to propose the return of CR7 to the Santiago Bernabéu. The situation at Manchester United was chaotic, so going back to the place where he was happy was an option on the Portuguese's table.

However and always as per the same source, Real Madrid did not bet on his arrival due to his high salary and his age, which would prevent him from playing most of the games in the season. They continued to trust Karim Benzema, who had just finished the best season of his career, and the possible return of Cristiano could have been problematic for the Frenchman's performance and continuity.
