Real Madrid will be without Ferland Mendy for the next three to four weeks. The left-back suffered a hamstring injury during the second half of Wednesday's derby at the Metropolitano. This setback will keep him out for at least 20 days, making him doubtful for the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal against Arsenal at the Emirates on April 8.
Mendy has been Carlo Ancelotti's go-to left-back in the recent Champions League knockout stages. The Italian coach has counted on his strong defensive skills to fend off attacks from Manchester City and Atlético Madrid. However, a misstep on a back pass to Courtois led to the injury, which Mendy immediately felt. Ancelotti then called on Fran García, who took over for the rest of the match and extra time, delivering an impressive performance.
In the best-case scenario, Mendy might make it back just in time for the first leg of the quarterfinals against Arsenal. There's a slim chance he could even appear in the La Liga match against Valencia. However, if the more pessimistic four-week timeline proves accurate, Mendy could be ready for the second leg against Arsenal at the Bernabéu on April 16.
