Micah Richards shared a cautious view on Real Madrid’s chances of going all the way in the Champions League this season.
Speaking on CBS Sports Golazo after Manchester City’s elimination, the former defender admitted: “If I had to say it now, I’d say no,” referring to whether Madrid can overcome teams like Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, and potentially Barcelona or Arsenal.
Despite that, Richards acknowledged Madrid’s unique edge in decisive moments: “I think there are better teams, but they have players for the most important moments, and that’s what the Champions League is all about.”
He also recalled Madrid’s historic 2021-22 campaign, when they stunned Europe with dramatic comebacks to lift their 14th title: “Every time I rule out Real Madrid, without exception, they prove me wrong.”
Once again, even skeptics recognize that when it comes to Europe’s biggest stage, Real Madrid remain a team that can never truly be counted out.
