Eder Militao has successfully undergone surgery to repair the torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee. The Real Madrid defender, who previously had surgery 15 months ago for a torn ACL in his left knee, faces another lengthy recovery period. His previous injury kept him off the pitch until March, and now, with this latest setback, he is expected to be sidelined for seven to nine months.
Real Madrid confirmed the success of the operation in a statement issued on Tuesday, noting that the procedure was carried out by Dr. Manuel Leyes under the supervision of the club’s medical team. "Our player Eder Militao has been successfully operated on today for a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee," the statement read.
The club also confirmed that Militao will soon begin his recovery process. However, his recovery timeline may be longer than before, as this injury has also affected his meniscus, further extending his absence from the squad.
Militao has effectively said goodbye to this season, and his road to recovery will be a long one as he works towards a full return to the pitch.
