José Mourinho continues to shape Real Madrid's squad for the 2026-27 season. The club has already secured the signings of Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konaté, and Denzel Dumfries, but further additions are expected before the transfer window closes.

Real Madrid's immediate priority is reducing the size of the squad through player departures, which would create room for two more signings requested by Mourinho: a central defender and a midfielder capable of controlling the tempo of matches in a role similar to that previously performed by Luka Modric.

Enzo Fernández and Mateus Fernandes have both been linked with the club in recent months. However, a move for the Argentine appears difficult due to the financial demands involved, with any deal expected to exceed €100 million. Despite the cost, Enzo remains a player admired by Mourinho.

Mateus Fernandes is also considered a target, although his signing would not come cheaply. Even after West Ham's relegation to the Championship, interest from several Premier League clubs, particularly Manchester United and Tottenham, could drive his valuation close to €80 million.

In defense, Real Madrid's plans depend largely on the future of Raúl Asencio. The club is reportedly open to his departure, which would create a vacancy in the back line.

To fill that position, Mourinho has suggested Alessandro Bastoni and Nico Schlotterbeck as potential targets. Bastoni, who plays for Inter Milan, is valued at around €70 million and is currently considered the more likely option. Schlotterbeck recently suffered an ankle ligament injury at the World Cup that is expected to keep him sidelined for approximately two months.

The Borussia Dortmund defender recently signed a contract extension but reportedly included a release clause worth around €50 million for selected clubs, including Real Madrid.

Rúben Dias has also been admired internally, but the Manchester City defender is not currently viewed as a priority target for the club.
