José Mourinho has continued to speak out about the Negreira case while abroad, adopting a more forceful tone than he has used during his press conferences in Spain. His latest comments came in an interview with Prime Video Italy, where he questioned the lack of consequences surrounding Barcelona's payments to the former vice-president of Spain's refereeing committee over a period of 17 years.

“I’ll just say one thing: congratulations to the Italians. Do you know why? Because it’s the only country where Calciopoli has truly been Calciopoli. Because in Spain, with what’s happened—and everyone knows what happened—it still seems like… the air isn’t very clear. So far, nothing has happened. Nothing at all,” Mourinho said.

Asked whether he expected developments in the future, the Real Madrid coach delivered an even stronger assessment of the case. “If nothing happens, it’s perhaps the biggest corruption scandal in world refereeing.”

This is not the first time Mourinho has made such comments, particularly in Italy, where the Calciopoli scandal led to Juventus being relegated to Serie B. In a recent interview with Corriere dello Sport, he also referred to his time at Real Madrid during the period covered by the Negreira case.

“I experienced Negreira's important period here at Real Madrid. Nobody knew it, but we lived through it. It happened. It happened . I left afterwards, now everyone knows.”
