José Mourinho has not lost faith despite Real Madrid's second LaLiga defeat of the season leaving them six points behind Barcelona at this early stage of the campaign.

The controversy surrounding Sunday's derby, which the manager addressed during his post-match press conference, has not distracted Mourinho or his coaching staff. The Portuguese coach remains fully confident in his squad, with what he sees during daily training sessions at Valdebebas reinforcing his belief that the team has the quality to compete for every title.

The gap to the league leaders is significant, but Mourinho believes it is far from impossible to overcome in September.

The schedule has also presented Real Madrid with two difficult away fixtures against Betis and Atlético, both of which ended in defeat, although the circumstances were very different. At La Cartuja, Real Madrid completely dominated the first half and only a lack of clinical finishing prevented them from taking a lead that could have been enough to secure victory. Against Atlético, their performance was less convincing, but the two red cards that Mourinho believes should have been shown to the opposition would have changed the complexion of the second half.

Despite the setbacks, Mourinho and his staff see the team as a work in progress and remain confident that performances will improve in the coming weeks. The international break now provides a different challenge, however, as Mourinho will be unable to work with the full squad for the next two and a half weeks. The immediate priority is therefore ensuring that Real Madrid's international players return to Valdebebas healthy.

Barcelona's six-point lead is significant, with Hansi Flick's side showing consistency and efficiency, but Mourinho and his staff believe Real Madrid have enough quality and depth to turn the situation around.

The early setbacks have come with plenty of the season still to play, giving Real Madrid time to regroup and recover ground in the title race.
