A new report by the Civil Guard, as reported by La Razón, has revealed an increase in the amount of money former vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA), José María Enríquez Negreira, received from FC Barcelona in the Negreira case. Initially, the figure was reported as €7.5 million, but this new report shows it has risen to €8,389,599.73.
The report highlights 135 transfers made between 2003 and 2018, involving withdrawals through checks and cash. The Civil Guard describes these payments as part of a "deliberate and fraudulent intention to obtain unjustified benefits." The report questions the transparency and impartiality of referees during this period, particularly since Negreira used José Martínez Alfonso, the CTA’s number two, as a financial intermediary. This arrangement casts doubt on the neutrality of the refereeing evaluations conducted by the CTA.
Furthermore, the report concludes that Barcelona made these payments to Negreira under the guise of ensuring neutrality in refereeing decisions. It argues that such payments from a club competing in the sport to guarantee neutrality would not be justified, as the CTA should remain neutral and impartial in its duties.
