Since the Negreira case came to light three years ago, Real Madrid has been among the clubs most committed to uncovering the truth. Acting as a private prosecutor, the club has repeatedly called for the investigation to be extended, which has led to several key figures being summoned to testify before the judge. This week, those statements have included former Barcelona presidents Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu, but also a crucial witness: Javier Enríquez Romero, son of former CTA vice-president José María Enríquez Negreira.
According to exclusive reporting by El Español, Javier Enríquez made two striking admissions before the judge. First, he confirmed that the €7.5 million paid by Barcelona were not for technical reports, describing the arrangement as “incredible” and “unethical.” Second, he accused the Catalan club of lying to the Spanish Treasury in order to cover up its ties with his father. He went further, recalling: “My father told me several times: ‘I can’t work with any club because I am the vice-president of the CTA.’” A statement that clashed with reality, given the substantial payments he received.
These revelations could prove significant. Testifying under oath, Javier Enríquez has begun to shed light on critical aspects of the case. Although sporting sanctions against Barcelona are no longer possible, the legal process is far from over. Many parties involved still hope to establish a charge of sporting corruption against the club. The coming months may be decisive.
