The new Real Madrid stadium will have its own Metro station. The one that already exists, the 'Santiago Bernabéu', will be expanded and renovated to make it more functional, modern and decorated with Real Madrid designs that will appear on giant screens, where historic club players and the trophies that Real Madrid have won will be shown.
Although the Ministry of Transport includes the reform "among its imminent projects" and the president of the Community, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, planned to announce the remodeling on October 10, the regional leader will not reveal the project until mid-November, when she visits the new Bernabéu with Florentino Pérez to assess the progress of the construction.
Specifically, the reform of the Santiago Bernabéu station will begin in 2023, once the regional elections are over. The plan of the Ministry of Transport is to build a "state-of-the-art" and more efficient station for the high traffic that is generated on game days. According to data collected by El Mundo, the stop at the Santiago Bernabéu increases its traffic by 1,500% when there is a match.
According to the aforementioned media, the new station will triple in size and resemble the Colombia stop or the Nuevo Ministerios stop to make it easier for fans to enter and exit the Metro. The Santiago Bernabéu platform can accommodate up to 10,000 spectators after a game on match days.
Real Madrid will welcome the reforms. It will improve the public transport that reaches the new stadium, which will become a multipurpose pavilion and will be able to host musical, cultural events and even other types of sports. In addition, two new car parks will be set up for residents of the area and to facilitate parking on match days. There will also be a new passageway under the Plaza de los Sagrados Corazones that will hide the traffic and free up the surface, where there are numerous schools.
