Nick Smith Jr. will finally be able to make his debut for Real Madrid. The 22-year-old, 6'2" shooting guard signed with the club on September 15 but was not officially registered with the EuroLeague until Monday.
This means Smith Jr. could make his first appearance on Tuesday against Anadolu Efes at 7:00 PM or on Thursday against Hapoel Tel Aviv in Sofia at 6:00 PM, in the final game of the first doubleheader.
Real Madrid's latest signing has remained close to the team since his arrival. Despite knowing he would not be able to play, he traveled with the squad to Abu Dhabi for the Super Cup, which Real Madrid won after victories over Dubai Basketball and Olympiacos. Smith Jr. also missed the EuroLeague opener against Dubai Basketball and Sunday's Liga Endesa debut against Unicaja.
The difficulties Real Madrid faced in signing a player with Smith Jr.'s qualities have raised expectations surrounding his arrival. It remains to be seen how quickly he adapts to European basketball, but his debut as a Real Madrid player is now imminent.
