It’s now official. Raúl Asencio is a Real Madrid first-team player. The talented Spanish center-back, who stood out as one of the breakout performers last season, has been added to the club’s official La Liga roster. His promotion is another sign of Real Madrid’s confidence in its youth pipeline, and he joins recent additions Carreras, Huijsen, and Trent as part of the club’s new generation.
While his registration is confirmed, the number he’ll wear is still up in the air. Asencio departs from his youth-team number 35 and will now choose from the remaining first-team shirt numbers. Currently, only numbers 17 and 25 are available, though number 9 is expected to open up soon, pending Kylian Mbappé’s official switch to the iconic number 10 jersey.
Asencio’s promotion not only rewards his rapid development but also strengthens Real Madrid’s depth in central defense heading into the new season.
