Real Madrid is on the verge of finalizing a deal with Trent Alexander-Arnold, following months of negotiations that began last December. At that time, the club made an official approach to Liverpool, seeking an agreement for the right-back’s transfer during the winter window. However, Liverpool’s directors refused to green-light the move. The contract Madrid is offering the English player spans five seasons, meaning that once his current deal expires on June 30, Liverpool will not receive a transfer fee.

Throughout the winter window, Real Madrid made two attempts to sign Alexander-Arnold, both with the player's approval. The aim was to strengthen a position that was left weakened after Carvajal's injury, where Lucas Vázquez had been the only available specialist. While Valverde was later used in that role, Madrid preferred to find a solution that would allow the Uruguayan to focus on his midfield duties.

With the agreement now in place, the next steps will involve formalizing the deal into a legally binding contract. Alexander-Arnold is in the final stages of his contract with Liverpool, which expires on June 30, 2025.
