Real Madrid secured a hard-fought victory over Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabéu in their first match following the international break. The win came in the eighth round of LaLiga, with both teams producing a closely contested first half that ended goalless despite several scoring opportunities.
The game opened up after the break, with Yan Diomande finding the net to put Real Madrid ahead. Vini Jr. appeared to double the advantage, but his goal was disallowed following a VAR review by Alejandro Muñiz. Referee Díaz de Mera subsequently sent off the Brazilian for a foul on Saliba in the build-up to the goal.
