Real Madrid begin a new European Cup season by taking on Union Berlin at the Santiago Bernabéu (Wednesday, 6:45pm CEST). It will be the 54th time our club participating in the competition, as they will also face Napoli and Braga in Group C.
Real Madrid, who have won the trophy 14 times since the competition's debut in 1955, have qualified for the European Cup more frequently than any other club. Benfica, who are playing for the 43rd time this season, is the closest team. Bayern Munich, who have participated in the competition 40 times, are right behind them.
Also, our team holds the record for the most victories (285), games played (476), and goals scored (1,047). Furthermore, we are ranked first overall in the competition. The system used by UEFA to determine this ranking gives each side two points for victories and one point for draws in the games they have played since the start of the competition. With 651 points, Real Madrid are ranked first, followed by Bayern Munich (534) and Barcelona (470).
