Theo Maledon, recently named to the All-EuroLeague Second Team, is expected to join Real Madrid next season. While some reports had linked him to Fenerbahce Istanbul, it appears that Los Blancos are set to win the race for one of Europe's most exciting backcourt talents.
Real Madrid has been in advanced negotiations for several months, and sources close to the situation suggest Maledon has agreed to a two-year contract with the Spanish giants.
The 22-year-old French guard rose to prominence this season with ASVEL, delivering one of the most statistically complete campaigns in the EuroLeague. He ranked fifth in total points created per game (27.5, combining points and assists), behind only elite playmakers like T.J. Shorts, Kendrick Nunn, Mike James, and Carsen Edwards, per BBallytics.
Maledon's leadership was key to ASVEL’s 13-win season—a noticeable improvement from the year prior. His performances included victories over top-tier teams such as Olympiacos, Real Madrid, Paris Basketball, Anadolu Efes (twice), and Barcelona.
In those high-profile wins, he averaged 20.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 1.2 steals, while shooting an efficient 50.6% from two, 42.9% from three, and 91.7% from the free-throw line.
For the full season, he averaged 17.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.0 steals, Shooting splits: 52.5% 2PT, 34.4% 3PT, 90.4% FT, Performance Index Rating (PIR): 20.6 – the 4th-best in the EuroLeague.
Maledon’s exceptional campaign has not only put him on Real Madrid's radar but also reignited NBA interest, with several scouts reportedly reassessing his potential return to the league.
For now, though, the next chapter of his career looks set to begin in Madrid.
