Real Madrid have released an official medical report confirming that Raúl Asencio will undergo surgery on his right tibia. The Canary Islands-born defender had been dealing with persistent discomfort in the area after failing to fully recover from his injury.

The club's statement reads: "Our player Raúl Asencio will undergo surgery tomorrow due to a stress fracture in the tibia of his right leg." The announcement confirms that Asencio will undergo the procedure in an attempt to resolve his ongoing physical problems.

Asencio missed pre-season due to shin splints and, although he returned to action in September, he was not fully recovered. The pain in the affected area continued, leading Real Madrid's medical staff to determine that surgery was the best course of action.

The operation is scheduled for Thursday and is expected to keep Asencio sidelined for two to three months. His absence comes at a difficult time for Real Madrid, with Éder Militão close to returning after five months out, Ibrahima Konaté currently recovering from an injury and being monitored ahead of the Villarreal match, and Dean Huijsen suspended.

At present, Antonio Rüdiger is the only fully fit and available center-back.
