Real Madrid have officially announced the dismissal of Xabi Alonso following the defeat against Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final.
In a separate statement, the club confirmed that Álvaro Arbeloa has been appointed as the new head coach of the first team. The former Real Madrid defender steps up from Castilla, where he had been in charge only for a few months.
Arbeloa leaves the reserve side in fourth place, firmly positioned in the promotion playoff spots, and now takes on the challenge of leading the first team during a decisive phase of the season.
