Real Madrid enter this season’s Champions League as the undisputed king of UEFA’s premier competition and, once again, the most valuable squad among the 36 teams competing in the league phase.
Despite the emergence of wealthy clubs such as Manchester City and PSG, both of whom have won the competition in the last five years, and the return to prominence of historic sides including Arsenal, Barcelona and Bayern Munich, Real Madrid continue to stand above the rest financially.
The Real Madrid squad is valued at €1.46 billion, narrowly ahead of Manchester City (€1.43bn) and PSG (€1.36bn), who complete the top three. Arsenal (€1.33bn), Barcelona (€1.26bn), Bayern Munich (€1.04bn) and Liverpool (€1.03bn) are the other clubs whose squads are valued at more than €1 billion.
Neither the immense financial power of the Premier League and PSG nor the emergence of new European giants has diminished Real Madrid’s standing. The club remains at the top of the Champions League’s financial hierarchy as another European campaign gets underway.
