After missing out on the EuroLeague Final Four, Real Madrid is already shifting its focus to building a stronger squad for next season. According to La Nuova, the club has set its sights on Reyer Venezia center Mfiondu Kabengele.
The Canadian big man has had an impressive campaign in the BKT EuroCup, regularly attracting interest from various EuroLeague clubs. Previously linked with Real Madrid back in January—before they ultimately signed Bruno Fernando—Kabengele has now re-emerged as a potential target.
Kabengele averaged 15.4 points and 9.7 rebounds in the EuroCup, earning a spot on the All-EuroCup First Team. He ranked second in average Performance Index Rating (PIR) with 23.2 and led the tournament in double-doubles, recording nine in just 18 games. In five of those appearances, he posted a PIR of over 30.
He has also been impactful in Italy’s Lega Basket Serie A, where Reyer Venezia heads into the playoffs. In domestic competition, the 27-year-old is averaging 14.8 points and 9.7 rebounds per game.
A former first-round pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, Kabengele played for the LA Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Boston Celtics, logging 55 games in the NBA and spending significant time in the G League. In 2023, he took his talents to Europe, first joining AEK Athens before signing with Reyer Venezia, where he later extended his contract through the 2024–25 season.
