Real Madrid suffered a defeat in the Spanish Super Cup final, losing to Barcelona at the King Abdullah Sports City stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The match started at a high pace with early chances for Barcelona, including a shot from Lamine Yamal and a header by Raphinha, both saved by Courtois. Madrid responded swiftly, with Mbappé receiving the ball in open space, advancing into the box, dribbling past Balde, and scoring against Szczesny within the first five minutes to take the lead.
Barcelona equalized midway through the first half when Lamine Yamal completed a solo effort. Madrid nearly retook the lead in the 24th minute when Tchouameni's header from a Rodrygo corner forced another save from Szczesny. The match continued with intense back-and-forth action until, in the 35th minute, referee Gil Manzano awarded a penalty to Barcelona after VAR intervention for a foul by Camavinga on Gavi, which Lewandowski converted.
Barcelona extended their lead when Raphinha headed in a long pass from Koundé to make it 1-3, followed by Balde scoring on a counterattack for 1-4 before halftime. Madrid had a chance to close the gap early in the second half, but Rodrygo’s volley hit the crossbar, and Barcelona quickly capitalized with Raphinha making it 1-5. The game took another turn in the 56th minute when Szczesny was sent off for a foul on Mbappé outside the box after reviewing the play. Rodrygo scored the resulting free kick, beating Iñaki Peña, but the match ended with a 2-5 loss for Madrid.
