Half of Europe is vying for Dean Huijsen, but only one club holds a distinct advantage: Real Madrid. The key reason? Huijsen is a lifelong Real Madrid fan.

The standout player from the Nations League qualifiers hasn’t been shy about his preference: "It’s a great honor that a club like Madrid has me in their plans." However, this public comment pales compared to what he privately shared with Spanish Football Federation representatives, Francis Hernández and Tito Blanco. During their attempt to convince him to switch allegiance from captaining the Netherlands U-19s to playing for Spain, Huijsen admitted that his biggest dream is to play for Real Madrid. His decision to join La Roja was a step closer to that ambition. Madrid, now even more impressed after witnessing his composed performance in the hostile atmosphere of Rotterdam, is optimistic about the 19-year-old's potential. "We already knew he was a top talent, but now we see he also has the temperament to succeed at Madrid," club insiders say. They believe he would form a formidable future duo with Asencio.

However, prying Huijsen away from England won’t be straightforward. Real Madrid faces stiff competition from Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool, the latter already preparing for Van Dijk’s eventual departure. In truth, another year at his current club wouldn't have harmed Madrid's plans, with veteran defenders Alaba and Rüdiger still under contract until next season. But Huijsen’s Bournemouth teammate Kluivert doesn’t expect him to stay: "I don’t think Huijsen will be with us next season."

Real Madrid knows that acquiring the young star won’t be cheap, but they are banking on his deep admiration for the club. There’s no urgency, as Huijsen’s maturity and guidance from his father Donny—who has roots in Spain and played alongside Seedorf at Ajax—will help manage the timing. Having grown up in Spain, Huijsen feels a strong connection to the country. In February 2024, his naturalization was finalized, solidifying his path towards his dream.
