Buenos Aires, the birthplace of Alfredo Di Stéfano, hosted a tribute to the Real Madrid legend on the 100th anniversary of his birth. Emilio Butragueño, Real Madrid's Director of Institutional Relations, represented the club at the ceremony. Silvana and Norma Di Stéfano, the former player's daughter and sister, were also in attendance.
A commemorative plaque honoring Di Stéfano was unveiled in Padre Marcelino Champagnat Square, where he began playing football on the former field of Club del Plata. The plaque reads: “On this ground, Alfredo Di Stéfano, one of the greatest figures in world sport, began playing football.”
Butragueño highlighted Di Stéfano's importance to Real Madrid during his speech: “Di Stéfano represents all the values of our institution. His DNA was fundamental in building that mythical and legendary Real Madrid that won the first five European Cups. It is impossible to understand the history of Real Madrid without Di Stéfano.”
