Real Madrid has initiated the process of soundproofing the new Santiago Bernabéu stadium to comply with the Ordinance on Protection against Noise and Thermal Pollution (OPCAT). This move comes after complaints from neighboring residents, leading to the suspension of concerts scheduled until March. The club has entrusted Arup, a renowned company in soundproofing large venues, to carry out a comprehensive study and develop a project to resolve the issue.
Arup, already involved in the stadium's construction, is tasked with addressing noise levels that reportedly exceeded regulatory limits during recent concerts. With their advanced expertise, the company previously contributed to the stadium's design, including its metal shell, seating arrangement, and LED lighting system. Real Madrid is also considering consulting another leading firm, Vanguardia Sound, though this remains unconfirmed.
The project is still in its early stages, with completion targeted by spring 2025. The club has already rescheduled concerts, such as Aitana's, to give ample time for the modifications. Real Madrid aims to ensure the stadium's activities benefit both the city and its surrounding communities, prioritizing effective soundproofing in this initiative.
