Rafa Marín is attracting renewed interest from Premier League clubs after establishing himself at Napoli under Massimiliano Allegri. Manchester United have already made enquiries about the Spanish centre-back, whose progress in Italy is also being monitored by Real Madrid.
Although the Spanish club are not currently planning to bring him back, they retain a buy-back option and a right of first refusal, giving them the opportunity to intervene if the defender attracts serious interest from other European sides.
According to Marca, Manchester United are not the first Premier League club to show an interest in Marín. Last summer, another English side submitted a €30 million offer for the defender, but Napoli rejected the proposal in the closing days of the transfer window and decided to keep him.
Marín joined Real Madrid's academy, La Fábrica, at the age of 14, progressed through Castilla and spent time on loan at Alavés before completing his move to Napoli in 2024. As part of the agreement, Madrid secured several options to bring him back to the club.
The most significant is a €35 million buy-back clause that can be activated in the summer of 2027. An earlier clause, worth €25 million and valid for 2026, has already expired.
Real Madrid also retain a right of first refusal, allowing them to match any offer Napoli receive for the defender. However, unlike some of the club's previous agreements involving academy graduates, Madrid do not hold a percentage of any future sale. They would therefore receive no automatic financial compensation if Napoli decide to sell him.
