Real Madrid have set their sights on Unai Emery. According to Ramón Álvarez de Mon, the club’s board have already made contact with the Spanish coach regarding the possibility of him taking over as manager starting next season.
The defeat against Benfica has reopened a debate that many believed had been settled with the appointment of Arbeloa. Despite being in charge for just three weeks, the team have already been eliminated from the Copa del Rey and failed to finish in the top eight of the Champions League. The current situation has drawn comparisons with the uneasy atmosphere experienced during Xabi Alonso’s spell and has pushed the board to begin exploring alternatives for next season.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ramón Álvarez de Mon revealed that Unai Emery is now the leading candidate to take charge of Real Madrid next season. The club have already reached out to the Aston Villa manager to assess his availability.
Emery is under contract with the English club until 2029, meaning any potential move would likely involve a significant financial cost. However, with Real Madrid’s situation becoming increasingly concerning and results failing to improve both last season and this campaign, the club could decide to pursue Emery this summer, especially amid Jürgen Klopp’s ongoing indecision.
