For months, Real Madrid have intensified their stance regarding the so-called Negreira case, adopting a firmer and more proactive strategy in search of consequences beyond the Spanish legal framework.
The club’s efforts are not limited to domestic courts. Madrid are also exploring institutional avenues, including potential action through FIFA and, more notably, UEFA. Relations with UEFA have reportedly improved significantly following the definitive collapse of the Super League project and what sources describe as a renewed understanding with UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin regarding the future of European football.
According to journalist Ramón Álvarez de Mon, Florentino Pérez and the Real Madrid board are considering formally requesting that UEFA reopen disciplinary proceedings connected to the case. The club reportedly believes that sufficient grounds exist for European sanctions to be examined independently of the Spanish process.
If UEFA were to accept such a complaint, potential sanctions — depending entirely on the governing body’s assessment — could theoretically range from transfer registration restrictions to temporary exclusion from European competitions, potentially spanning one to ten years.
Within the club, the matter is viewed as one of the most serious controversies in recent Spanish football history. There is also reportedly greater confidence in UEFA’s institutional response than in the domestic handling of the issue under LaLiga president Javier Tebas.
Whether UEFA ultimately chooses to act remains uncertain, but Real Madrid appear determined to pursue every available channel in what they consider a decisive institutional battle.
