Real Madrid plan to formally request the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to postpone Castilla’s upcoming Primera RFEF clash against Racing de Ferrol, scheduled for September 7, 2025, due to a severe shortage of available players.
Álvaro Arbeloa is facing a crisis, with 12 players set to miss the fixture—nine called up to international duty and three sidelined by injuries. Of those absences, 10 are outfield players under Castilla contracts, leaving the coach with just eight available: David Jiménez, Manu Serrano, Valdepeñas, Lamini, Joan Martínez, Cestero, Manuel Ángel, and Bruno Iglesias.
The list of key internationals includes Fran González (Spain U-21), Diego Aguado and Pol Fortuny (Spain U-20), Fortea and Yáñez (Spain U-19), Rachad Fettal (Spain U-20), Loren Zúñiga (Equatorial Guinea), and Cristian David (Spain U-20). Injuries further complicate matters with Mario Rivas, De Llanos, and César Palacios unavailable.
Although Castilla could turn to academy players, the club insists that the unprecedented scale of national team commitments—particularly with Spain’s youth squads—justifies rescheduling the match.
The RFEF has previously rejected similar requests from reserve teams, arguing their formative nature, but Real Madrid remain optimistic. A final decision from the federation is expected soon.
“We’re working to ensure the team can compete fairly,” a club source emphasized, underlining the exceptional circumstances.
