Real Madrid has formally requested Barcelona’s Court of Instruction No. 1 to extend the investigation into the Negreira case by an additional six months, citing the ongoing complexity and early stage of the legal process. If granted, this would push the deadline to March 1, 2026.

Back in February, the judge presiding over the case had already agreed to a six-month extension, moving the deadline from March 1, 2025, to September 1, 2025. However, Real Madrid—acting as a private prosecutor—believes this timeline is still not enough to carry out the full scope of necessary investigations.

In a document dated July 8 and accessed by EFE, Real Madrid’s legal team urged the court to approve another six-month extension from September 1, 2025, due to the case's current status.

According to the club, the inquiry is "still in a very preliminary stage," noting that only José María Enríquez Negreira—former vice president of the Referee Technical Committee (CTA)—has testified, and he chose to invoke his constitutional right to remain silent.

Real Madrid also pointed out that several key figures have yet to appear as suspects, including Negreira's son, Javier Enríquez Romero, former Barça presidents Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu, and ex-directors Óscar Grau and Albert Soler. In addition, current Barça president Joan Laporta and former coaches Luis Enrique and Ernesto Valverde are expected to testify as witnesses.

"The complexity of the investigation, the length of time over which the alleged conduct took place, and the number of individuals involved make it necessary to continue gathering evidence," argued Real Madrid in its formal request.
