The summer of 2026 may bring a major shift for Real Madrid. According to ESPN, the club is seriously evaluating the possibility of ending its long-standing preseason tradition in the United States, a destination it has visited almost every summer since 2010. Although the decision is not final, the idea is gaining traction within the club.
For more than a decade, Real Madrid has maintained a strong presence in the American market, with tours in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023 and 2024. They also returned last summer for the Club World Cup.
ESPN reports that Real Madrid is now studying several highly profitable offers from other countries. At this stage, the United States appears to have “fewer options” than before. The club’s intention is to explore new markets, especially given that 2026 will draw worldwide attention to North America with the World Cup taking place there and the final set for July 19 in New York.
Barcelona’s recent decision to shift their preseason to Japan and South Korea is also being viewed as a reference. As ESPN notes, Real Madrid believes a similar change could be beneficial both commercially and in sporting terms.
There is no frontrunner yet for the new destination, but one thing is becoming increasingly likely. Next summer may be the first in many years in which Real Madrid does not begin its preseason in the United States.
