Real Madrid are determined to strengthen their midfield, and the club’s long-term dream signing is Vitinha. However, bringing the Portuguese international to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium this summer is considered practically impossible.

Inside the club’s offices, there is full awareness that the deal cannot happen in the immediate future. As a result, Madrid have already started working on a long-term strategy aimed at eventually securing Vitinha’s signature.

The key date in this plan is the summer of 2028. Despite the improvement in relations between Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, the French club has no intention of letting one of its most important players leave anytime soon. Vitinha’s current contract runs until 2029, and the midfielder would reportedly have no problem remaining in Ligue 1 for a couple more seasons before considering a move to Madrid.

While that long-term plan takes shape, Real Madrid still need to reinforce the midfield much sooner. For this reason, the club has already begun exploring the possibility of signing Rodri.

The midfielder from Manchester City fits several of the club’s current requirements. His contract situation could allow him to arrive for a relatively affordable transfer fee, he would bring immediate quality and experience to the squad, and his potential cycle at Real Madrid could end around the same time the club hopes to move for Vitinha.

For now, this is the scenario gaining the most traction within the leadership at the Santiago Bernabéu: a short-term solution with Rodri while the club continues preparing the ground for Vitinha in the years ahead.
