Rafa Nadal has officially announced his retirement, marking a historic day in Spanish sports. Widely regarded as the greatest national athlete of all time, Nadal will conclude his illustrious career following the Davis Cup final. This announcement has resonated across the sports world.

Real Madrid, a club Nadal is a passionate fan of, issued a heartfelt official statement in recognition of his outstanding career and the influence he has had on Real Madrid fans globally.

The statement from Real Madrid reads:

"Following Rafa Nadal’s announcement of his retirement from professional tennis after participating in the Davis Cup with Spain in November 2024, Real Madrid C.F., its president, and its Board of Directors would like to express their admiration and affection for one of the greatest legends in both Spanish and world sports.

For us and for all Real Madrid fans, it is a source of immense pride that a legend like Rafa Nadal is an honorary member of our club.

Nadal’s extraordinary list of accomplishments, including 22 Grand Slam titles, is a beacon of success and perseverance. His 14 French Open titles alone stand as the most ever by any tennis player. He also claimed 4 US Open titles, 2 Wimbledon championships, and 2 Australian Open victories. Furthermore, Nadal is the only tennis player in history to have won at least one Grand Slam for ten consecutive years, and he achieved the remarkable feat of winning the French Open five times in a row.

Representing Spain, Nadal has won the Davis Cup five times (2004, 2008, 2009, 2011, and 2019) and earned gold medals at the Olympic Games in Beijing (2008) and Rio de Janeiro (2016). His total tally of 103 career titles spans Grand Slams, ATP tournaments, and Olympic victories.

Nadal’s legendary career has been built on his exceptional talent, relentless work ethic, humility, and respect for others. His approach to both sport and life has earned him numerous prestigious honors, including the Prince of Asturias Award for Sports (2008), the Grand Cross of the Royal Order of Sporting Merit, three National Sports Awards for Best Spanish Sportsman, and the Gold Medal for Merit at Work, among many others.

Real Madrid also expressed their appreciation for Nadal's support of the club and his role in promoting its values around the world.

We wish Rafa Nadal and his entire family the best in this new chapter of their lives.”
