UEFA has officially published the Champions League squad lists, confirming the 40 players chosen by Xabi Alonso for Real Madrid.
The main surprise comes in the goalkeeper department. Sergio Mestre, who has regularly featured in Alonso’s squads, has been left out. Instead, U19 A goalkeeper Javi Navarro makes the list, joining Courtois, Lunin, and Fran González to complete the four-man group.
Beyond that, the squad follows expectations, with several youth players filling out the roster alongside first-team regulars. In defense, 15 players are registered, including five from Castilla: Fortea, Diego Aguado, David Jiménez, Joan Martínez, and Valdepeñas.
Midfield is the area with the biggest influx of academy players. Alongside the six senior midfielders, seven youngsters have been added: Pol Fortuny, Manuel Ángel, César Palacios, Cristian David, De Llanos, and Thiago Pitarch.
In attack, eight forwards are registered, with only one youth-team player included: Dani Yáñez, the Castilla winger, who earns a spot in the squad of attackers for Europe’s top competition.
Goalkeepers (4): Courtois, Lunin, Fran González and Javi Navarro.
Defenders (15): Carvajal, Militao, Alaba, Trent, Asencio, Carreras, Fran Garcia, Rudiger, Mendy, Huijsen, Diego Aguado, Fortea, David Jimenez, Joan Martinez and Valdepeñas.
Midfielders (13): Bellingham, Camavinga, Valverde, Tchouaméni, Güler, Ceballos, Cestero, Pol Fortuny, Manuel Ángel, César Palacios, Cristian David, De Llanos and Thiago Pitarch.
Forwards (8): Vinicius, Endrick, Mbappé, Rodrygo, Gonzalo, Brahim, Mastantuono and Yáñez.
