Real Madrid continues to closely monitor the market as it looks to strengthen its defensive line with the signing of a new center-back. Despite having several players capable of covering the position, concerns remain regarding the form and age of certain defenders.
For that reason, the club’s sporting management is actively working on bringing in a player who can ensure both a generational transition and an immediate boost in quality.
According to José Félix Díaz, Real Madrid’s strategy is to focus on players whose contracts are expiring, thus avoiding complex negotiations with other clubs. The journalist, speaking to Marca, revealed that Ibrahima Konaté has become the top priority for Los Blancos.
However, Real Madrid are also keeping alternative options open, including Dayot Upamecano and Marc Guéhi, should talks with Konaté fail to progress.
In addition, Díaz mentioned Joan Martínez, a Castilla center-back who is highly regarded within the club. After making a full recovery from a cruciate ligament injury suffered over a year ago, Martínez is viewed as a potential cornerstone of Real Madrid’s defensive future.
